It was nice to have Santiago give us an
overview of how programming came to be and how it evolved throughout the years;
most of what he spoke of I heard for the first time. I have to say I’m awful
with computers, and I’ve avoided dealing with them other than when absolutely
necessary. And that’s just dumb, right? –since everything revolves around them
these days. So I have to change that. I realize I have a lot to learn. Other
than that, it’s tough to sit through a four hour class in dim lighting without
dosing off a little, but it is what it is.
I am from Brazil! I just moved here for college and although
I miss my family loads I’m glad to be here. I’m 21 years old, and I’m a Painting and Philosophy
double major with a minor in Psychology. I never tire of listening to the
Talking Heads, I think I’d say Heinlein is my favorite author, …when I have apples I eat their core too, and
in my opinion draft beer tastes much, much better than just plain ol’ beer. My
favorite colors are teal and mustard, and my currently favorite quote is by
Frank Herbert from the book Dune. It goes, "Isn't
it odd how we misunderstand the hidden unity of kindness and cruelty?" Isn’t
it fabulous?! …Most interesting.
My expectations from this course are to hopefully
become better acquainted with computer programs in general but more
specifically to be able to mess around with Photoshop and Illustrator on my
own. I realize six weeks isn’t much and these programs are pretty vast, so I don’t
expect to know it all once the course is over, but I expect to build on top of
the foundation the course will provide once the summer is over.
